WHAT DOES PAUL SIZER DO IN HIS WORKSHOPS?
I have been conducting comic art workshops for kids and teens for the last 15 years, using the power of the comic art form to get kids excited about exploring their own creative thinking.
I focus on showing the participants in my workshops the potential they already possess, and give them ideas for tapping into that creative process for their own work. Using my own comic book work as a jumping off point, I lead the kids through creative exercises that are fun and action-packed, getting their pencils and paper filled with new ideas. I like to show them how I approach the same problems they encounter, and how I get my creative mind in gear for creating my own comics.
My presentations also show how manga and anime influence my comic art, a popular hook for your teen comic readers interested in Japanese comic and animation! I use exciting PowerPoint presentations to talk about my influences, and to share where I get inspiration for my own comic work. Depending on the direction you want for the workshop, we can focus on drawing instruction, writing, or Japanese anime and manga. I also bring along my digital drawing tablet to show how I draw using the latest computer technology! My workshops can be tailored to whatever direction you like. And I also love to show my own work and draw for a room full of young artists!
WHAT’S A PAUL SIZER COMIC WORKSHOP LIKE?
My workshops are multimedia events, using live drawing and sketching and PowerPoint presentations to show, rather then tell, the information. I’ve worked to make my workshops adaptable to work for different age groups, so I can focus on the areas the age group is interested in. I’ve tailored my workshops to discuss basic creative techniques, Japanese manga and anime techniques, basic drawing skills and can also focus on writing and comic conceptualization.
My workshops can involve hands-on drawing demos for smaller groups, or can be more presentational for larger groups (I’ve presented to groups as large as 300 students!). I encourage kids at my presentations to draw and sketch along during the event, so I love to see pencils and pens flying across paper while I talk.

WORKSHOP RATES
Within the state of Michigan, my base rate for a 2 hour workshop is $400.00 + mileage.
($0.45/mile, from Kalamazoo, MI), and events out of the state of Michigan are negotiable.
AGE RANGE FOR WORKSHOPS
I work with groups from middle school, junior high and high school through college age students. Generally, a more focused age group range yields better results in a workshop as far as content. I generally focus on my LITTLE WHITE MOUSE work for an all ages group; if you are interested in having me speak more about my MOPED ARMY and B.P.M. graphic novels, that’s more geared to a high school age group because of the book’s “older teen” rating.
