ALEX WOOLFSON

Alex Woolfson is a writer and self-publisher based out of the Bay Area in California, and was put into contact with me to do some simple logo work for one of his projects. From there, Alex and I established a productive working relationship and one small project has turned into many.

Alex has established an award-winning series of online and print graphic novels that feature gay lead characters in super-hero and sci-fi stories, a seriously under-represented section of the comics mainstream. Alex has created a highly successful comic community around his series, and is an accomplished crowd-funding master, funding all parts of his publishing business through his supporters, including paying his artists and designers very well. I’m proud to be associated with Alex’s high quality work, and glad to be part of the support system that gets his work into the hands of an increasingly diverse and wide audience.

You can find out more about Alex and his work at his website.

Projects

ARTIFICE GRAPHIC NOVEL

Cover and book design for Alex Woolfson and Winona Nelson’s Artifice graphic novel. This also includes some concept designs for the page designs, masthead custom lettering and informational design directions.

THE YOUNG PROTECTORS “ENGAGING THE ENEMY” GRAPHIC NOVEL

Book design, page layout and title logos for the characters in Alex Woolfson’s second graphic novel project, The Young Protectors: Engaging the Enemy (Volume 1). I also helped Alex design the trading card set that was created as a reward for his crowdfunding supporters, showing stats and information about the main characters of The Young Protectors series.

GOOD WORDS

“Paul is astonishingly dedicated, amazingly talented, and an absolute joy to work with. I wanted my comics and merchandise to look ‘just as good as what Marvel and DC puts out’ – and he made them look even better. People are floored when I hand them the books he designed; I consistently get told these are the best looking graphic novels they have ever seen. He works fast, tirelessly (even coming to my rescue Christmas week with a bunch of last-minute changes my printer requested), he creates attractive and compelling designs for a wide variety of different needs (be it logos, trading cards or a whole book), and is always upbeat.”
