SIZER COMIC E-NEWSLETTER YEAR-END 2007
PAUL SIZER COMIC E-NEWSLETTER
December 28, 2007
Hello friends, fans and retailers.
Just a quick note to say "Happy Holidays!" and "Happy New Year".
2007 was a great year to learn, work and create. I've been working hard on my new graphic novel, "B.P.M.", and 2008 will see it out in the public domain! I'm working with some new ways to share this book with a wider audience and to get people excited about it and the music that inspires it. How will I do that, you ask?

So Long Brody...

Last Thursday, my male cat Brody passed away. He was 15 years old, and had been of declining health for the last 6 months. He had a thyroid problem which caused him to lose a lot of weight (at top weight, around 15 pounds of cat), even though his "intake and output" was exactly the same.
I was glad I was able to be home with him when he passed. He went quickly, and Jane and I sat with him in his final moments. We took him out to my parent's farm to bury him later in the day.
He was a big dumb lovable pussycat, and I'll miss him much. Oh, he was named after graphic designer Neville Brody, one of my design "heroes".
His sister Basia (named after the Polish pop/jazz singer) is still in great health, but she does seem to notice he's not around anymore. I also find myself automatically doing my mental checklisting for 2 feline forms when getting ready to leave the house or at bedtime.
Jane wrote a very nice blog entry on this as well:

Mike Pfieffer, the nice man behind the excellent "Most People Are DJ's" podcasts just uploaded his most recent one, which included an interview with me, from this year's Motor City Comicon, talking about my upcoming BPM project, Little White Mouse and everything I could say about my favorite kinds of music!

3. SIZER AT A.L.A. 2007 IN WASHINGTON DC (Booth # 2554)
Here's the press release for me, Jane and Jim Ottaviani being at this year's American Library Association Annual conference in Washington DC. on June 23-26.
JANE IRWIN/PAUL SIZER/JIM OTTAVIANI: Booth # 2554
"Sizer is also announcing that he will be exhibiting at this year's ALA Conference in Washington D.C. in June. He, along with wife and fellow comic creator Jane Irwin (VOGELEIN) and comic author Jim Ottaviani (DIGNIFYING SCIENCE, FALLOUT), will be exhibiting in the graphic novel pavilion of the massive yearly convention. With Sizer's "Great Graphic Novels for Teens" award for MOPED ARMY, and Irwin's second VOGELEIN book being released, the comic creators decided it was time to take the plunge and meet over 25,000 librarians at this convention. "We've all done years of comic conventions; now we want to show our books to a new and very receptive audience on the national level. We're very excited at the potential exposure this conference will give us, and we want to show with our newest and strongest material."

NOVEMBER 20, 2006
Hello friends, fans and retailers.
Thanksgiving is almost here, and in addition to my annual venture into getting one year older (yet strangely, not always wiser), it's time for some more news from the halls of Cafe Digital publishing studios. Please don't step on any elves, and pass the gravy!

MEET ZOE
Meet Zoe (ZO-EEE, I can't make the cool umlaut over the "e"), our new dog we just rescued from the Battle Creek Animal Shelter.

(And no, she's not blind, she just blinks like Jane does...)
She is a labrador/corgi mix, found as a stray in Jackson, MI, and sent to Battle Creek where Jane found her online. She's come from a tough background, and little by little she's getting used to not being on the run.
UPDATE, NOT DEAD
...but plenty busy!
Man, my brain is not plugged in for blogging, but hey, it means I'm busy with other stuff, right?
Anyways, you may have seen this image other places in my site, but here's my first poster that actually admits I plan to have BPM out in 2007 sometime!

And truthfully, it WILL be out, as I have just confirmed I'll be doing a digital release show in Kalamazoo at the Center for New Media's digital gallery in May of 2007. It will be in conjunction with the yearly Kalamazoo Animation Festival Internation. More on that as it firms up on dates and times, but I'm really excited about this, as this gallery has big screen plasma screen TVs for artwork, and the place is wired for sound, which means we can have the placing booming with good music during the premiere of images for BPM (maybe some live DJ action as well!)
More soon!

SEPTEMBER 29, 2006
Hello friends, fans and retailers.
Here's three quick items for you to absorb and use only for the powers of good, not evil...
1. SIZER COMIC ART EXHIBITION DURING OCTOBER ART HOP
As ill-advised as it is to give me more public exposure, the nice folks at the ever hip and industrial Smart Shop Gallery (
SMARTSHOP) are taking that chance. Starting during the monthly Kalamazoo Art Hop (
KALAMAZOO ART HOP) FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 5pm-9pm, I will have an exhibition of my comic art from the LITTLE WHITE MOUSE and MOPED ARMY graphic novels and comics. And as a first, the art pages themselves will be for sale! I'll be there from 6-9pm on that Friday, signing books and being arty. The gallery will be open that night from 6pm - 11pm with art, refreshments and bands, so it's your Friday night entertainment needs all in one place!
Also, any local branch Moped Army riders are encouraged to please show up with your bikes and make the place more hip with your presence!
2. NEXT CONVENTION STOP: MOTOR CITY COMICON FALL
Catch me in Artist Alley for the fall edition of the Motor City Comicon. (

3. NEW LITTLE WHITE MOUSE REVIEW
The nice folks at BookLoons gave the LITTLE WHITE MOUSE OMNIBUS Edition a very nice review! Check it out:

SIZER E-NEWSLETTER 9-5-06
Hello friends, fans and retailers.
Quick one this week, just a few tidbits of LITTLE WHITE MOUSE goodness:
1. NEW SIZER INTERVIEW POSTED AT FIST FULL OF COMICS!
The industrious boys at Fist Full of Comics (
FIST FULL OF COMICS ) found my Artist Alley table at this year's Wizard World Chicago and actually wanted to talk to me more, rather than less. (Huh, gotta process that for a moment...)
An interview came from it, and you can check out the results in MP3 format here:
SIZER INTERVIEW W/ FIST FULL OF COMICS
If you have the time, it's well worth checking out the other interviews they did at that show as well. I have no idea how they got this many interviews done, but I'm willing to bet some Red Bull was involved... Thanks guys!
2. GRETA SIMONE REVIEW OF "LITTLE WHITE MOUSE"
She's 12 years old and she reviews comic books! (When I was 12 years old, I was drawing rip-offs of the Avengers and the X-Men. Crazy motivated kids!)
Her name is Greta Simone, and she's just posted a short interview and review of LITTLE WHITE MOUSE OMNIBUS EDITION at the Pulse.
GRETA'S LWM REVIEW
You can also check out Greta's own blog site where she reviews other books as well:
GRETA'S WEBSITE
Thanks for the good review, Greta!
3. WHAT WILL B.P.M. LOOK LIKE?
We'll, it's still in the planning stages, but here's another sneak peek at what the book will look like image-wise:

That's it. Thanks for reading. Back soon with more news.
Next convention stop: MOTOR CITY COMICON, October 14-15, Novi, Michigan.

LWM TRADE DIGEST SPECIAL OFFER!
Ah, the joys of self publishing! Seeing books go out to bookstores is a special feeling; quantities of those books coming BACK from stores...well, that's not as magical a feeling. All part of the great publishing "circle of life", and now an opportunity for you to own the Mouse at a big discount!
With the recently returned copies of the first LITTLE WHITE MOUSE trade collection (the manga digest size version) now in the possession of CAFE DIGITAL STUDIOS, I'm keen to get them out of our storehouse and into YOUR hands, and all for a measly $5.00 (plus shipping) each (originally $12.95). This is a great (and inexpensive) way to introduce yourself or others to the world of LITTLE WHITE MOUSE. Thinking of trying the book, but low on cash? Friends looking for new comics to discover? Comics fans on holiday or birthday lists? In need of great giveaways/prizes for your school or library's next contest? The answer to all these queries: A LITTLE WHITE MOUSE DIGEST FOR $5.00! This offer will be in place until stock is depleted (which will be quite a while as it looks...)
It's a win/win situation for both parties, so if you're interested, please check out my online store for more ordering information:

WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO 2006 CONVENTION REPORT
WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO 2006 CONVENTION REPORT
Going in with some trepidation of how good of a con this would be for me as an indy publisher, I am happy to report I did FANTASTIC business in Artist Alley this year! Made table on the first day, and sold a ton of LITTLE WHITE MOUSE OMNIBUS editions at $25 a pop, which blew my mind for selling a big ticket item in Artist Alley. The traffic in the Alley was great, and I did good business, met a ton of people and networked like crazy! Hung out with cool comic people like Carla Speed MacNeil (FINDER), Jennie Breeden (DEVIL'S PANTIES), David Petersen (MOUSE GUARD), Pam Bliss (KEKIONGA), and Johanna Draper Carlson (COMICS WORTH READING.COM), and met many fans and friends who I hadn't seen in a long time. Chicago is still a really strong show, servicing a very active fan base, and I'll be back next year with no hesitation.
And back by popular (?) demand, my camera was clicking and my snark flying, here's my own pictorial review of the convention from my vantage point in Artist Alley:

"MOPED ARMY" WINS 2nd PLACE IN TWO GLYPH AWARD CATEGORIES
OK, I suck as a blogger, so here's some great news I sent out with my e-news lists and forgot to post in my blog:
The 2006 GLYPH Awards were announced this last weekend in Philadelphia at the 5th Annual East Coast Black Age of Comics Convention (ECBACC), and MOPED ARMY took 2nd place honors in two of the three categories in which it was nominated: "Best Writer" and "Story of the Year".
Considering the stellar talent in each category, I am amazed and honored that MOPED ARMY was seen as a contender and worthy of the expert scrutiny and critique it received to be nominated alongside these other creators. Kyle Baker swept many of the awards, after an amazing year of some of his most diverse and hard hitting work. He's who I would have voted for, so I'm glad to see him get the praise he so richly deserves. Congrats to all the winners, who you can check out here: (
GLYPH AWARDS)
Rich Watson, one of the judges and originators of the GLYPHS, wrote this really nice summation of MOPED ARMY last week in his blog, as he spotlighted all of the nominees for each award. You can check that out here:
